Tried and Tested: Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask

Face masks are something that I always approach with a degree of trepidation, caught between the glorious sense of luxury and the fear that it is going to make my face erupt with any impurity that was hovering beneath the surface just waiting for an excuse to appear.  That, and given an unwise lethargy about doing the recommended product test on the back of my hand before liberally applying product from forehead to chin, which is practically an invitation to allergic reactions.

Well, on having the opportunity to try Sisley’s Black Rose Cream Mask , there was no chance I was going to wait the prerequisite 12 hours for any potential reactions; I was going straight for it.  Out came the aromatherapy essential oils and into a steaming hot bath I went with a full face of £93 youth-boosting bliss and 15 minutes of soaking with a good book.  Now that’s a decadent Monday evening.

Containing Black Rose, Padina Pavonica, and Alkekengi Calyx extracts (known for their anti-ageing properties), it is said to immediately get to work hydrating, plumping, and smoothing the skin in a bid to make you luminous by the time you leave the bathroom.  They also recommend that you use it two to three times a week for the best results, which seems like a pretty good way to schedule in some home made R’n’R each week if you ask me.

The smell of the mask is subtle but pleasantly of roses, which is an instant soother at the end of the day and happily, as Sisley is a gentle sort of brand, no adverse reactions occurred - as it says on the bottle, it is suitable for sensitive skin.  If anything, the mask is really more of a balm and noticeably skin feels smoother and a little less cross about its general exposure to stress and the outdoor elements that the day may have otherwise inflicted.

It’s pretty decadent given the retail price, but as it can be used quite sparingly it’s going to last a while even with regular use.  We all deserve a treat every once in a while, so consider it a gift for yourself.  Or, as it’s a fairly female-centric product to my mind (although by no means exclusively), for any men out there looking to treat their wives/girlfriends/other, this is the kind of rose that has considerably longer lasting effects than your bog-standard bouquet.
