Cycling is a wonderful way to exercise, explore new places and get outside. With many spa destinations located in beautiful (and often extensive) grounds, not to mention the countryside beyond, why confine your exercise to the gym when you can use cycle paths and bicycle hire to get out into the fresh air? With today being Cycle to Work Day in the UK, it seemed an opportune moment to also explore the options for cycling to wellness too! Here are some of the top spas with cycling paths and bicycle hire.
Hoar Cross Hall in Staffordshire is well known for its magnificent architecture, grounds, five-star spa and all-round luxury experiences. The gardens are a key feature setting the scene for a relaxing getaway. Expanding to 50 immaculate acres, they offer a variety of activities including tennis, archery, croquet and boules. Cycling is also very much part of the experience, with bicycle hire available from April to November. Cycle along the beautiful woodland trail, taking in the views of the Needwood Forest, the towering oaks of the estate and the tranquil Italian Garden.
This charming and historic property is surrounded by 11 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens followed by parkland populated by wildflower meadows and woodland. The hotel is set within a grand Tudor property, complete with many original features including a stone fireplace, magnificently carved bannisters and a grand oak panelled hall. The spa offers the chance for rest and relaxation, as well as multiple sporting endeavours with two tennis courts and a croquet lawn. They also have bike hire so you can explore the grounds at a leisurely pace.
In a magical location overlooking the River Tay and Perthshire’s vast and rugged landscape, Dunkeld House Hotel is perfectly positioned for outdoor adventures. The four-star hotel sits within 280 acres of grounds, offering a chance to really explore the beauty of Scotland with outdoor activities including quad bike adventures, fishing for salmon, archery, clay pigeon shooting or tennis. Furthermore, while they don't offer cycle hire, this is a marvellous place to bring your bike and get out exploring. In addition to the grounds, there's ample opportunities for road cycling or off road cycling from the hotel - one of Scotland’s finest routes is along the 100 mile none stop cycle path.
Famed for its five-star, luxury credentials, Pennyhill Park doesn't do anything by halves. The Surrey hotel and spa has a wealth of facilities to recommend it, from its 45,000 sq. ft spa to its Michelin star dining. It's also surrounded by 123 acres of grounds equipped for jogging, playing tennis, or a game of croquet. You can also bring your bicycle and head off to explore Swinley Forest, complete with green , blue and red trails fit for all the family.
