According to a report quoted in The Guardian, bookings for pet-friendly holidays rose by nearly 15% in 2023, with the so-called 'holi-dog' boom having come along leaps and bounds since the pandemic, when around "3.2m households acquired a pet", meaning there are now about 12 million dogs in the UK. The paper wrote: "about 70% of owners take their dog with them on holiday, according to the Dogs Trust." With that in mind, here are some of our top recommended dog friendly spa hotels.
On a 1,065 acre estate, Luton Hoo is as much a paradise for pets as it is for people. The five-star luxury hotel welcomes furry friends, who delight in the grounds and gardens, as well as a restful night's sleep in select rooms (as long as you pre-book their stay). Well-behaved pets can enjoy accommodation as well as a bed and bowl to use for a £30.00 supplement.
A favourite spa hotel for its warm welcome, historic style, and exemplary service, Spread Eagle Hotel and Spa is a dog friendly hotel that's a treat for every guest. Spend the day sniffing around the South Downs before settling in for an evening of comfort and joy. The Midhurst hotel welcomes dogs to stay for £25 per night per dog (up to two dogs per room). Dogs can stay in the room with you and are welcome everywhere with the exception of the spa and restaurant.
Overlooking the Fowey Estuary, Fowey Hall is a seaside retreat that inspired The Wind in the Willows. These days it’s still as inspirational as it was to Kenneth Grahame and welcomes the whole family including the dog with lots to entertain the kids, including collecting eggs from the hotel chickens. Dogs are welcome at this blissful retreat, staying in the main house rooms for £25 per dog, per night, within which they will receive a bowl, cosy bed, tennis ball and tasty treats on arrival. They ask you keep dogs out of the dining areas and on the lead in public areas.
A historic red brick building that makes you feel like royalty, Tylney Hall is a glamorous destination surrounded by beautiful grounds. It’s perfect for walking around so bringing the dog seems like an obvious choice, which you can do for £25 per night to give him/her their own basket, blankets, bowl and chewy toy. The concierge can provide a map of walking trails within the estate, and there are dog-friendly ground floor garden rooms which are set within 66 acres of historic gardens and parkland. They can also provide healthy meals and snacks are supplied by Arden Grange pet foods.
Surrounded by acres of gardens and blissful tranquility, Ockenden Manor invites you to enjoy a contemporary spa inspired by nature, alongside an Elizabethan Manor. Together the whole experience is charming and made better by the welcome presence of man/woman’s best friend, who may join free of charge as long as he/she behaves.
This elegant hotel and estate are a blissful location for rest and relaxation. At Ashdown Park you can spend time exploring the 186-acre estate within Ashdown Forest with your four-legged friend in tow. Their dog friendly hotel rooms are the Fairway Suites, with French doors that open directly out onto the parkland, complete with a private terrace. Dogs can choose their own dog’s dinner (chicken breast or grilled fish prepared to order), eating in your room or private dining). The hotel can also arrange a dog-sitting service subject to availability. They charge £30.00 per dog, per room.
At this famously luxurious and family-friendly hotel, dogs are welcome in style. There's a small fee of £25 per dog per night, for which they will receive a bowl, cosy bed, tennis ball and tasty treats on arrival. There's an in-room a la bark menu for fresh dishes and treats straight from our kitchen, lots of space to run around in the grounds during the day, and the option to have an afternoon wage-tails tea for £15 including homemade treats and a puppacino. For muddy walks, there's a dog wash station so they're presentable after their jaunt.
Perhaps one of the most all-encompassing dog friendly spa hotels is the unique Sawcliffe Manor - Natural Spa in Lincolnshire. Stay in suites and cottages, and spend your downtime in the one-of-a-kind off-grid spa, where even your pet can be pampered. Their doggie day spa experience means that while you take a couple of hours to settle into a wellbeing experience in the spa, so can your pet. While you're bathing, dogs enjoy their own ‘paw-mpering’ experience. They spend time in a safe area with cosy sheepskin and enjoying natural doggie cosmetics like lovely fur sprays with essential oils, nose and paw balm, and chews and treats made from natural ingredients to keep their teeth clean and their stomachs happy.
