Read full postJennifer Young, provider of spa cancer care training to many UK spas, won the Beauty Accelerator Programme, one of the categories at the European Women Startup Competition, in London last month.
With a background in biology and beauty therapy, Jennifer entered the world of cancer support when some of the women at her local NHS hospital asked her to work with them and create specialist skincare and cosmetics for those going through treatment. Jennifer’s revolutionary skincare range for those living with and beyond cancer, Beauty Despite Cancer, was born from her determination to find a solution to the many side-effects to skin and nails that cancer patients suffer from.
Beauty Despite Cancer was selected from more than 300 applications from across Europe, the United States and United Kingdom to win the top prize. The win at the competition, sponsored by Avon, will see Jennifer work with the global beauty brand to help take her product to its next stage of success.
The Beauty Accelerator Programme is part of the Women Startup Competition European Competition Roadshow, a yearly startup competition series across Europe with the mission to give early-stage female-founded or female-led startups brand exposure and pitching opportunity. The final event, hosted in London, saw the finalists pitch to a panel of international investors, press, corporate executives and angel investors.
“We were pleased to see all of the amazing entries to the Beauty Accelerator Programme this year at the Women Startup Competition. Avon is committed to making top quality beauty and science readily available to everyone, and we’ve been backing female entrepreneurs for more than 130 years so there’s a great deal of alignment in our missions. With more than 360,000 new cancer diagnoses each year, Jennifer’s products are not only necessary but have great purpose too. We’re excited to be in contact with Jennifer and exploring how we may be able to work together as we move forward.”
Group Vice President, Research and Development and Chief Scientific Officer of Avon, Louise Scott
“Words can’t describe how grateful I am for the opportunity I have been given by Avon. Participating in the competition was a tremendous experience as I was able to meet women who do amazing work. I am thrilled to be working with Avon and am excited for what the future has in store.”
