There are so many reasons to love Hoar Cross Hall, but as we daydream about summer spa days it is the outdoor spaces that have some of the greatest appeal and this is a destination with one of the dreamiest spa gardens.
Recently named one of the best UK spa gardens by the Good Spa Guide, this Staffordshire spa’s grounds envelope you in their peaceful beauty from the moment you arrive. The Good Spa Guide says:
“Impeccable grounds surround the building, with neatly cut lawns framed by yew hedges, and gravel pathways leading past herbaceous borders and fountains to a rose garden. Wander between oak and lime trees in the 30 acres of mature woodland and enjoy the tranquil Italian water garden, where a fountain draws water from underground rainwater storage. The herb gardens at Hoar Cross are also worth a peek, as are the original Victorian greenhouses, both of which grow produce for the kitchens. You may discover the six lakes as you walk around the grounds, where wildlife is encouraged and protected. The Hoar Cross Spa is in the basement of the hotel, with a 26-metre saltwater vitality pool, hydrotherapy pool, aqua massage, a cold plunge pool and an aqua detox area. After you’ve had a day of relaxation in the spa, step into the gardens for a stroll in the fresh air.”
Set in 50 acres of grounds, the Elizabethan manor house has many attributes. The trees, lawns and borders are immaculately kept and it’s a treat to sit or roam the grounds, hand in hand with a partner or pondering your own thoughts quietly. There’s also plenty to do outside, in addition to the celebrated spa. Amongst the outdoor gems, key features include a wealth of outdoor activities such as:
- A newly surfaced tennis court
- Archery
- A woodland walk
- An Italian garden
- Cycling in the extensive grounds
Naturally, the grounds can also be enjoyed from the different areas of the hotel, and one of our favourite ways is tucking into afternoon tea with a view of the lawns. It doesn’t even need good weather to be appreciated!
