The Spa at The Grand York

It was called a Serenity Retreat but crossed kids' hour which was anything but serene - very hard to relax with that much noise. The steam and sauna rooms were very small too.

Very poor experience. As a 5 star hotel we were expecting 5 star treatment but sadly this was not the case. When we arrived we were not informed of any information by the receptionist. We had booked the 3 hr afternoon at the spa with a one hour hot stone massage. A therapist showed us through to the changing room and told us to go to the relaxation room 5 minutes before our treatment time. We stated that we did not know our treatment time, she said she thought it was 3pm but would check. We heard nothing more so presumed it was 3pm. At 14.50 we went to the relaxation room as instructed. There were 4 beds in there but 5 people so another couple had to perch on one bed. One by one the other people were called through for treatments by their therapists. After a few more minutes we went to reception to enquire about our treatment and was told it was at 4.15pm - no apology for the mix up. The facilities were basic. The changing room smelt like blocked sewers, the spa area had a pool, sauna, steam room and a jacuzzi which was not very warm. There were no areas to relax near the pool. Have been to much better facilities for much less cost. We both had hot stone massage. One was excellent, one was OK. Overall very disappointing and I certainly would not recommend or return.

Excellent and clean spa facilities. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Staff were lovely. The only bad thing would be the changing rooms have a bad smell from the drains possibly. Coffee and tea was freely available but I would say more prominent water fountains/facilities would be better placed in a spa environment where one is relaxing and detoxing.

Terrible stay at this spa. We were not shown around the facilities or welcomed well when we arrived. Reception staff young and seemed not interested. We completed the forms. Handed these back and was told our treatments started in 3 minutes. We were not shown where or how the lockers worked except a wave in the direction. We quickly put our things in the locker. Leaving them unlocked as not shown how they worked We sat in relaxation lounge and was called for treatment This must have been 2.05 pm I was introduced to therapist who to be fair was polite and friendly. I was left to get undressed. So this must have been 2.10 pm My treatment was short. Finished by 2.29pm Was supposed to be a 30 minute treatment But did not realise this would include introduction and changing time Massage was mediocre Again we were not shown facilities Swimming pool ok but small and hotel guests were also using these facilities Jacuzzi ok Steam room ok but very small and busy with other hotel guests Children also in pool Sauna not working Informed staff and was told she would look at it. But no apology given No comfortable seating areas to sit at pool a couple of hard chairs and small uncomfortable bean bags Not offered or shown any refreshments apart from a small cup of water after massage found tea and coffee by accident when trying to look for a relaxation/reading area This area had about four loungers to sit so was not the best area to relax. A family with five children were looking around as we were trying to relax Overall the most terrible spa I have been to and would not return Not value for money at all.
