Sources indicate that The Belfry has an impressive history - once a 13th century Manor House named Moxhull Hall inhabited by the Knights Templar. It became a family home in the 1950s, and eventually became a small hotel. Gradually it changed hands and was extended to include the golf courses and main hotel building. It was acquired by KSL Capital Partners in August 2012 and in 2013 it underwent a comprehensive £26 million renovation. In 2021 it was bought by Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Cedar Capital Partners.
