    Good
The spa is quite small, and the hotel has full access to the spa which meant they were lots of families and very limited seating/lounging availability. Thanks experience was overall OK. What really let down my experience was the food quality, very underwhelming afternoon, tea with scones that were a robbery and cakes that were very dry.

    Good
The spa was clean and well maintained but could’ve done with more seating. We went on a Tuesday and the spa was really busy with hotel guests for the first 2 hours meaning no seats by the time we got there. The spa receptionist that greeted us was lovely and showed us around on arrival. Unfortunately the day was completely let down by the dining experience part way through the day. One of us is coeliac and after being assured the food that was ordered would be gluten free- what was brought to the table was not. One of the sandwich buns had been changed to gluten free bread however after being promised gluten free fries, the fries that were given to us were “may contain” and consequently sent back. We also waited an hour for two hot steak sandwiches which then arrived cold. We probably would’ve sent the food back but we were so hungry from waiting such a long time and also had to be conscious of the time as we had to get back to the spa for our treatments. We overheard two other guests leave before their food even arrived as they had to get back to the spa for their treatments as well. There seemed to be a severe lack of staff and communication which was a real shame. The dining areas seemed very quiet so I am unsure why the food took so long. The only aspect of the meal that salvaged it was that the steak was tender and of good quality. The beauty treatments themselves were nice but I have had better elsewhere. I had an Indian head massage and a facial. Unfortunately I felt the beauty therapist was a bit heavy handed with the facial which compromised the overall feeling of relaxation. Also, her phone rang in the middle of the treatment which is just unacceptable. It was on silent however it vibrated rather loudly right near the treatment bed which was really off putting. Overall, an average spa day that disappointed in certain areas. Probably won’t be back.

    Excellent
We booked a one night dinner, breakfast and spa package at Macdonald Linden Hall. It was a comfortable stay with friendly staff and lovely communal areas (interior and exterior). The food and massages were amazing. I would thoroughly recommend the pork belly if it is on the menu! Parts of the hotel are a little run down though, particularly the changing rooms, so that detracted from the experience slightly. Overall we left well rested and happy.
