I hope this review comes across as helpful and not just moaning as I did have a nice day overall, I just feel there are improvements to be made. I had been to this spa years ago and was excited to go back following the renovation however I was slightly dissappointed to find it was not quite as good as it had been previously. Before it was very dark and atmospheric whereas now it was lighter with a large projector showing images of the hebradies. I get what they were trying to achieve here but it didn't quite work and felt a bit cheap. Secondly for such a "premium" venue there were a number of things not working: the massage jets in the pool, the ice fountain or the new snow shower. The latter two not being operational took away from the whole hot/cold experience they advertise. The staff were lovely but could do with giving a bit more communication, for example telling us which rooms were which. We ended up unsure what the purpose of the salt room was and when I asked a staff member if the smaller sauna was the hotter one she looked at me as if I was a muppet and said "yes, saunas are hot" which my friend and I did have a good laugh at. My treatment (hot stone massage) was nice enough, relaxing, but lacked any pressure which I would have preferred. The biggest issue by far though was the timings set by the hotel. Our massages finished at 3.10pm when we were led to a relaxation room and told to take our time. However we couldn't because our meal (up in the main room) was scheduled for 3.40.so we had to scurry back down to get ready. Obviously lots of others had been scheduled to finish at the same time as the changing room was mobbed. We had to wait for showers and space at mirrors. This left us no time whatsoever to use the fancy amenities that had been highlights to us (straighteners, Dyson hairdryers). We barely had time to fling on a bit of makeup. It felt really rushed and stressy- the exact opposite of how you want to feel after a spa. Furthermore, we had to go to the restaurant with soaking wet hair. I did mention this to some staff in the spa but they seemed to be aware of the issue and not care about trying to fix it. We then had to wait ages at a busy spa reception to check out and again for the lift- making us late for the restaurant booking anyway! Previously the lunch had been. Served in the spa itself which meant you could eat it in your robe and not feel rushed at all. The new system is not currently working. The food itself was great- I had the pork belly which was absolutely delicious. The cocktails were lovely (if somewhat limited and unexciting cocktail menu) and the staff in the main hotel were very attentive and Professional. All in all, as nice as day as we had, it did not have the premium feel attached to the hefty price paid. I would not be in a rush to return or recommend until I was sure they had rectified some of the issues above, particularly the timing issue.

The spa break was excellent throughout our stay. Particularly impressed with how friendly every single member of staff was and the quality of the treatment which was truly luxurious. Food in the main restaurant was also lovely, far better portion , choice and quality than I would have expected as part of a spa package.
