On the edge of Dartmoor near Plymouth, Boringdon Hall is best reached by car due to its rural location. There is plenty of space to park. From the A38 travel 34 miles and take the exit onto B3416, signposted Plympton, Newnham. Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall is just three miles from this exit. The nearest station is Plymouth Train Station, just over three hours from London Paddington, from which you would need to get a taxi, and the nearest airport is Exeter, which is an hour’s drive away.
What's included in a spa day at Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall depends on the experience that you book. It is complete with a range of facilities including a swimming pool, hydro pool, an outdoor hot tub, two saunas, two steam rooms, two poolside heated beds and two luxury loungers as well as 12 treatment rooms and its own 'spatisserie'. They also offer treatments using ESPA, and Gaia’s own natural products.
On the edge of Dartmoor, known for its dramatic beauty and expansive walking territory, Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall is also within easy reach of the city of Plymouth, and, for those who drive, the wider natural beauty and pretty coastal villages of the South West. Top attractions for those who want to venture beyond the hotel, include exploring the national park, clay pigeon shooting, horse riding, hot air ballooning, golf, and helicopter tours of Devon.
The hotel part of Boringdon Hall is set within a Grade I listed 16th-century country manor, although the location itself has a regal history dating back to 956 AD. In that time it has been the property of Henry VIII, and home to the ill-fated Lady Jane Grey, who became Queen of England for only nine days in 1553.
Today it retains many of its historic features and was converted to a hotel by last owners, but after fire destroyed much of it in 1989 it was carefully restored to become the hotel it is today. The spa, by contrast is an entirely contemporary addition, which first broke ground in 2015 and was initially built for £5 million.
Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall is very much a tale of two halves - the historic hotel and the ultra contemporary spa. Both elements work in harmony with one another and are also experiences in their own right.
The five-star hotel has 40 rooms and suites - all decorated in sumptuous style that combines the best of heritage and contemporary design. There are two restaurants - an award-winning fine dining experience in the hotel, as well as the spa cafe.
Gaia Spa sits within the hotel grounds - set over three floors, there’s a swimming pool, hydro pool, an outdoor hot tub, two saunas, two steam rooms, two poolside heated beds and two luxury loungers, as well as 12 treatment rooms.
There are no disabled rooms at the hotel due to the the age of the building, however they can offer ground floor rooms when arranged in advance. Some public areas have uneven flooring due to the age of the property, which may make it unsuitable for wheelchair users. The spa however has contemporary design that's more accessible. There are lifts to all three floors, a slope instead of steps into the property, disabled toilets and changing facilities, rails to help access the pool, contrasting colour tile at the pool edge, emergency alarms by the pool and all staff have disability awareness training.
The hotel has two restaurants. In the hotel guests will find the award-winning, five-star fine dining restaurant - Àclèaf, where the chef uses local ingredients in an imaginative British menu. In the spa meanwhile, there is a dedicated 'spatisserie', where you can enjoy brunch, lunch, tea and afternoon tea without having to change out of your robe and slippers.
Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall has 12 treatment rooms including two dual treatment rooms, where therapists use ESPA, and Gaia’s own natural products in a range of face and body treatments.
Check-in at Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall is from 3pm, and check-out time is 11am. If you're a day spa guest, please check the details of your booking or specific spa package before arrival.
