A small port and market town in Lincolnshire, Boston in the UK is often overshadowed in name by its American counterpart, but its rich history provides a proud heritage as well as many reasons for visitors to enjoy a Boston spa break.
Legend has it that the town area was named after St Botolph, which takes its roots all the way back to the 7th century. Its magnificent church is one of the UK’s most enduring landmarks, and its markets have been established for more than 450 years, and much of its impressive architectural monuments herald its medieval background. The town is located on the River Witham, which joins it to the North Sea and the city of Lincoln. Collectively it all points to Boston’s role in the UK’s trading past, which endured across the centuries, and also means there are some charming Georgian buildings that also remain.
One of the most popular attractions in the area is the Boston Fair, which began in 1125 and became one of the most popular in Europe. Today it remains an annual event in addition to Boston’s weekly markets, which are worth a visit. Other things to do when visiting the area include trips to the Blackfriars Arts Centre, walks at Beech Wood and a round at Boston West Golf Club. Families enjoy river trips on the Boston Belle and practicing shooting skills at the Battle Warehouse.
