Tried and Tested: Ishga Skincare Products

Ask any therapist what the most simple and important start to a good skincare routine is and water is most probably at the top of the list, which makes ‘ Ishga’, the Gaelic word for water, an appropriate name for the new product line at Blythswood Square Spa in Glasgow.

Made using hand-harvested seaweed cultivated in The Hebrides (which boasts some of the cleanest water in the world) combined with natural spring water, essential oils, and extracts from cucumber, macadamia, jojoba, aloe vera and lemon peel, it is a 100% organic skincare range exclusive to the hotel.

The line includes a cleansing lotion, face cream, face mask, serum, and a toner; all beautifully packaged and with carefully selected components to help with specific parts of your routine - for example, while the cleansing lotion contains Brown Algae Seaweed filled with antioxidants and Bergamot Orange Oil to calm and soothe the skin, the serum contains Natural Salt Water for its healing properties, and so forth.

Easy to use and obviously at its finest when used as a complete range, the scents are unimposing which is either something you will love or be indifferent to depending on how you like these things, but the brand does strike that wonderful balance between having all its ‘earth mother’ credentials and still seeming wonderfully high-end, as befits its home at Blythswood Square Spa.

Personally we would give everything a try, but on the understanding that between £25 and £70 a pop you might want to start with one product and graduate to the full set, we were particularly taken with the toner (£25), which comes in a convenient spray bottle and seemed to successfully remove all the urban grime and whatever else had laid to rest on our faces, without drying the skin out.

So that’ll be another thing we are adding to our wish list in the coming months then!
