Read full postYou know a place is posh when it has its own art curator, and that’s exactly what they have at Seaham Hall. The idyllic five-star experience is in a country house dating back to 1791, but with all the glamour of contemporary design and style. It’s set against a backdrop of 37 acres of grounds perched on a cliff top, with beautiful coastal walks in the surrounding area.
Reputed to be the largest spa in the UK, with numerous pools, a beautiful series of thermal pools that allow you to swim from inside, out into the gardens even in the depths of winter, 11 heat experiences, and their own spa product line. Over-sized treatment beds, initially designed to accommodate the England Rugby Team who stayed during the 2015 rugby World Cup and continue to train within the grounds. Meanwhile, the hotel itself dates back to 1609 and has a restaurant where the chef has not one, but two Michelin Stars.
In 90 acres of Cotswold countryside, Ellenborough Park is not only luxurious but extremely welcoming. It’s the sort of place where you can go for a country walk and borrow Hunter wellingtons or Dubarry boots and jackets. There is a hotel dog who welcomes all guests including the four-legged kind, and then there’s the spa; an indulgent bolthole to relax and unwind in.
With a Michelin Star restaurant and a beautifully scenic location on the banks of Loch Lomond with the added drama of the highlands behind it, Cameron House has all the makings of a wonderful luxury escape in Scotland for the whole family. There are leisure facilities at the hotel, but The Carrick Spa is very much a haven for grown-ups and is a short distance from the hotel itself - we’re particularly fond of the rooftop infinity pool.
One of London’s most beautiful and romantic destinations, The Landmark Hotel and Spa is centrally located, and is all about five-star experiences. There’s an array of facilities which include beautifully mosaiced, separate male and female steam rooms located in the changing areas, and after you’ve done all of that, make sure you hang about for afternoon tea.
Tucked away in a small village in West Sussex, the views from Ockenden Manor oscillate between rolling panoramas of the countryside and enchanting Tudor architecture. The Michelin-starred restaurant not only offers impeccable food, but also boasts views of the South Downs National Park, and the contemporary spa is purpose built in the 19th Century walled garden using using natural warm spring-water in the experience shower and the highly acclaimed REN skincare line in treatments.
A beautiful location, design and building, one of the really charming things about Congham Hall is the food. Using ingredients from the hotel’s internationally acclaimed herb garden, the restaurant’s ethos is about simplicity and taste, which is a wonderful start to a break that’s all about feel good factor. Surrounded by views of the Norfolk countryside, The Secret Garden Spa is modern but sympathetic to the rest of the hotel, and continues the herby theme using Elemental Herbology products that are rich in vitamins, antioxidants, essential fatty acids and proteins to counter the effects of stress, age and busy lifestyles - all in all, it’s a beautiful experience.
At Luton Hoo they have their own black taxis to take you from one building to the next if you don’t fancy walking - how’s that for luxury? In 1,065 acre grounds, Luton Hoo is in a relaxing rural setting, but within easy reach of London, so it’s the best of both worlds. The rooms, the restaurants and the spa all scream ‘luxury’, making it a popular location for a romantic break. Meanwhile, the final flourish of decadence is the uncompromisingly good service. These guys really know what they’re doing.
A completely unique spa experience, The Gainsborough Bath Spa is not just a spa, it’s a village dedicated to wellbeing. Facilities at the spa include two natural thermal pools, traditional and infrared saunas, a steam room, an ice alcove, relaxation areas, 10 treatment rooms, an additional couple’s treatment room, a VIP suite with private natural thermal waters, two tatami rooms, and a beauty salon. Guests are invited on a unique experience tailored to their needs, where Malaysian treatments are preceded by a ritual including aromatherapy and a probiotic welcome drink. It really is wellbeing of the highest order.
Surrounded by 500 acres of landscaped gardens, Stapleford Park is a rich environment for wellbeing on all levels, whether it’s walking and cycling around the grounds, horse riding or retiring to the spa. The spa itself is in a converted Victorian stable block within the grounds, while the hotel has played host to royalty as part of its illustrious history dating back to William the Conqueror. Quintessentially English, you absolutely must have afternoon tea when you visit.
