Spotlight on The Bridge Hotel & Spa

The North Yorkshire hotel and spa with a hot tub for 10 and a dreamy Lavender Courtyard.

What first appears as a contemporary hotel is a destination with hidden depths. The Bridge Hotel & Spa is a longstanding favourite amongst Spabreakers for its commitment to great experiences in every aspect of your stay. From the hotel to the spa, here's what you need to know.

A hotel with history

The hotel takes its name from the 12th-century bridge crossing the nearby River Nidd, and is a nod to its former guise as a coaching station for stagecoaches in the 1800s. Look carefully, and you can still see that heritage reflected in its architecture, while rooms and suites are decorated in rich colours but offer modern style and sophistication.

A Yorkshire welcome

The atmosphere is one of the most joyful parts of a trip to The Bridge Hotel & Spa, where staff greet you with a warm Yorkshire welcome and a 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude. Susan, who visited, said:

"Lovely, polite and friendly staff. Spa facilities were good. Spa treatment was very good. Would definitely recommend it."

A sumptuous spa

The spa takes inspiration from nearby spa town, Harrogate, famed for its reputedly healing ‘chalybeate’ or iron infused waters discovered in the 16th-century. Set around pretty gardens, which they have incorporated into indoor/outdoor wellbeing experiences, the spa has carefully considered facilities with favourite features including:

  • An apple wood sauna
  • A eucalyptus crystal steam room drench shower
  • Japanese foot spas
  • An ice fountain
  • Experience showers
  • Footbaths
  • Outdoor hot tub
  • A Nordic barrel sauna
  • Snooze room complete with its own balcony
  • Hanging chairs in the Lavender Courtyard
  • A rasul mud room

A richly romantic restaurant

The hotel restaurant continues with a historic theme with its oak beams, high ceilings and traditional décor that offer a warm ambience. Local food and drink are the order of the day, inviting you to settle in for the evening. The Byron Whisky Bar is an ode to its famous, eponymous romantic rogue, and is complete with 250 year old oak panelling and an original Inglenook fireplace – the perfect place to relax.

Places to go and things to see

Not only is The Bridge Hotel & Spa a beautiful place to visit in itself, it's also in a wonderful location for exploring the surrounding area. North Yorkshire is rich in history and natural beauty, with top local attractions including:

  • Brimham Rocks: An amazing collection of unique, natural rock formations in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, formed 325 million years ago.
  • 199 Whitby Abbey Steps: In the seaside town of Whitby, situated just north of Scarborough and Robin Hood’s Bay. The 60M high climb up these 199 stone steps offers sweeping views of the harbour and town of Whitby.
  • Newby Hall: A beautiful country house beside the River Ure in the parish of Skelton-on-Ure.
  • Fountains Abbey: Positively enchanting, Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England.
  • North Yorkshire Dales: For walkers, the North Yorkshire Dales offers thousands of square miles of moors, valleys and hills to explore.
