Part of the GuestHouse Hotels collection, No.42 Margate is a stylish retreat overlooking the water in the characterful old town quarter of Margate. Combining the best of old and new holiday traditions, it's a unique destination for a weekend getaway.
In a Victorian property akin to those across the town that have welcomed travellers since the 1730s, No.42 Margate is a bijoux retreat where rooms are individually designed and many have their own balconies. Each one has been carefully considered, offering understated luxury and details including fresh milk, hairdryers, steamers, slippers and gowns, a turntable and records, a Bluetooth Roberts Radio, TVs with Freeview and the right to raid the hotel Pantry.
In a part of the world that has easy access to fresh fare from land and sea, it's perhaps little wonder that the hotel's restaurant, The Pearly Cow, is so popular. Tuck into lunch and dinner made from local ingredients, or for nutrient-rich breakfasts head to Field Trip which sits right on the sand. Evenings simply have to be spent in the aptly named Rooftop Bar overlooking the water and tucking into drinks and snacks late into the night.
As with any destination by the seaside, when it comes to wellness the first place you need to look is the ocean, and indeed the great outdoors beckons when you visit No.42 Margate. Leisure here is about strolls on the sand and swims in the sea, before returning to the calm cocoon of the spa treatment rooms in the hotel.
On the topic of treatments, this is the place for snuggling up in your fluffy white robe and enjoying sustainably-and-ethically-sourced skincare. After a calming salt-water bath in an opulent copper tub, experience a range of therapies using eco-luxury products formulated in Britain. Rituals, massages and facials range from shared therapies to a Top-To-Toe Glow which is up to two hours for an afternoon well spent.
Overlooking Margate beach, the hotel is in a wonderful location for exploring the historic seaside town. Visit the Grade I-listed Shell Grotto, where 4.5 million shells make up mosaic walls, head to the Turner Contemporary art gallery, or skip on over to renovated retro theme park Dreamland for memorable features like the colourful indoor Roller Room or a selfie by the Hollywood-esque Dreamland sign.
