Binaural beats in spa treatments
Technology is a big part of our lives in just about every way, and it's also adding another layer to the wellbeing experience in spas. Binaural beats are one of the spa trends cited by Spa Business for 2025. Acknowledging that it can be difficult to settle into meditation and silence our busy brands, they write:
"Binaural beats – which are essentially two different tones with different frequencies, each of which is heard through one ear via headphones – are said to produce the same brain state as meditation, but much faster and in a more passive way. Listening to binaural beats creates something of an auditory illusion and tricks your brain into processing the difference in the tones. Benefits can include reduced anxiety, an increase in focus, lowered stress, a boost in creativity and even pain management."
It's with that in mind that spas are using the science to create new, tech-based meditation and mindfulness experiences, blending binaural music with other experiences like floatation tanks, or offering it as an option in its own right.
For example, Somadome pods are Founder Sarah Attia's vision for creating a moment of peace in a busy world, while Welnamis beds are the basis of the Gharieni group's next level touchless treatment experience.
The Somadome guided meditation pod
The Somadome is a glowing meditation space that seamlessly blends ancient healing modalities with modern technology to restore balance to your mind, body, and spirit. With twenty meditation tracks to choose from to best fit your intention—All in just 20 minutes.
Using binaural beats through noise-canceling headphones, it creates a deeply personal experience, guided or self-led. Whether you’re seeking rest, focus, love, creativity, or transcendence, the Somadome meets you exactly where you are.
Each session is enhanced by light and colour therapy, with hues that balance your energy and amplify your meditation. The dome creates a sense of infinite space while blocking harmful Electromagnetic Frequencies (EMFs) with magnets that work synergistically. Creating a cocoon that replicates the frequency of a healthy human body and stimulates the free flow of chi through energy medicine.
For physical renewal, mental clarity, or spiritual reconnection, the Somadome is your sanctuary to reset, recharge, and rediscover balance. It's one of a number of innovative therapy options available at the RE:TREAT spa at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester. Others include a sensory deprivation floatation tank and a cryotherapy chamber.
The Welnamis touchless treatment bed
In 2021 the Gharieni Group, which manufactures spa equipment launched a next-generation touchless treatment concept bed, combining "specific binaural acoustic and vibrational frequencies to deeply relax both the brain and body."
The Welnamis bed "delivers dynamic vibrational therapy through the body while [you] listen to multilayered binaural acoustic audio programmes through headphones."
The goal is to deliver specific brainwave frequencies, similar to meditation, to help slow down mental activity, rebalance the body’s chakras and encourage anti-inflammatory responses. It can be used in conjunction with other touch therapies or as a self-guided treatment.
