As lockdown lifted we have all been desperate to get back out for a little pampering, which is exactly what Product Manager, Carly, experienced on an overnight spa break near Rotherham at Hellaby Hall Hotel & Leisure. Here’s what you need to know.
It’s great for a group of friends
Unpretentious and welcoming, for those looking for a spa break near Rotherham with a group of girlfriends, Hellaby Hall Hotel is a great choice. I visited on their Girls Night In Package, which includes dinner, bed and breakfast, a 30-minute spa treatment, half a bottle of rose wine per person, use of leisure facilities including the spa garden and a hot tub session, and chocolate popcorn and movies in your room.
The spa is really welcoming
The leisure facilities mean that there’s plenty of opportunity to work out and wind down.
There’s a pool, steam room, sauna and gym, and there are loungers to relax on and outside space. As part of our spa experience we also had allocated time in the outdoor hot tub, which was a great way to relax and prepare for my treatment.
At check-in you’re given towels and a robe, and I would recommend that you take a pound coin or ask for a token for the lockers. I filled in my consultation form and was then taken into a little garden, which is lovely, especially as it was a sunny day. The hot tub is in a little hut, which reminded me of being in a ski lodge.
Our therapists then came and took us for our treatments. On this package, you get a 30-minute spa treatment, choosing from a back massage, mini manicure, mini pedicure or a facial. I chose to have a back massage, which was just what I needed, although I would recommend upgrading to an hour’s treatment if you can because it’s nice to really have the time to unwind!
After that you’re taken to the relaxation room which is dimly lit, so you can keep that nice sleepy feeling. There’s also tea, coffee and water laid on so you can happily stay there for a while.
Excellent food, excellent service
After we had finished in the spa we went back to our room to change for dinner. You have to reserve your dinner time (as you do generally), and within the package there was a two-course meal included, which was plenty. Everything was very Covid secure but it didn’t impact on the quality of the experience. The food was wonderful and the service was fantastic - nothing is too much trouble and they really make you feel welcome. Afterwards, as it was a warm sunny day, we had drinks outside and took in the historic building, which was lovely and really added to the experience.
A relaxed hotel with modern facilities
Despite the grand exterior, everything about this hotel is understated. There’s a lovely sense of space, and in my room the bathroom had been newly refurbished, which was a nice touch. It had everything you needed and it was noticeably very clean.
From the moment I arrived, staff were friendly, and lots of measures had been taken to make guests feel safe - such as having lots of hand sanitising stations around, and you can pre-authorise credit card if you want so that all payments are contactless. There’s free car parking if you’re staying over - you just have to provide your registration number - so again it’s all very convenient.
For those looking for a spa break near Rotherham, it’s ideal and is a great base for exploring the surrounding area, such as Meadowhall shopping centre, Rotherham itself, and Sheffield - all of which are just 15-minutes away.
