This exquisite spa in Cheshire sits on an established estate and is the perfect combination of contemporary wellbeing and luxurious decadence - perfect for a romantic spa day as well as a full weekend of pampering. Amongst the estate’s features are its own vineyard, producing a Carden Park Estate Reserve sparkling wine from grapes grown on site. Meanwhile, the spa is adult-only, has a 2,500 square metre spa garden, and works to bring the beauty of the outdoors in. It is designed with large windows, bountiful natural light, and an array of outdoor facilities that can be used throughout the year. Complete the experiences with a celebratory glass of bubbles in the Bollinger Champagne bar.
From its outdoor jacuzzi which lets you relax surrounded by nature, to a couple’s massage in the double treatment room followed by champagne, the Elan Spa at Mallory Court is one of the most romantic spa hotels for anniversaries you will find. With a real sense of intimacy, the spa feels like a secret hideaway in the gardens. Meanwhile, the hotel has an Art Deco glamour to it that’s deliciously elegant.
Part of the Historic Sussex Hotels collection, part of Ockenden Manor’s charm is the passionate team behind it. Their care is evident in all the details, from the contemporary, eco-friendly spa which flows from the inside out, to the Elizabethan hotel. The balance between decadence and wellbeing is definitely part of what makes it one of the UK’s most romantic spas. Perfect for feel good factor, as well as being totally spoiled (especially if you opt for a seven course menu at dinner). However, it’s also the tranquility of its location by the South Downs that also makes it perfect for quality time together on a romantic spa getaway.
No list of the most romantic spas would be complete without Pennyhill Park. The hotel and spa are both magnificent destinations in their own right. The hotel is historic, romantic and grand with a Michelin star and a menu created by an award-winning chef in The Latymer restaurant and plush furnishings throughout. The spa meanwhile, is a vast haven of tranquility. They have their own spa products, it’s home to one of only 24 Natura Bissé ‘bubbles’ in the world, and at 45,000 sq. ft in size it’s a playground of pampering. Every bedroom is differently decorated - some even have horizontal showers (where you lie down) and jacuzzis. It’s perfect for romantic spa breaks and anniversaries.
This five star hotel is a pillar of the hotel and spa community. Its reputation for Championship golf courses precedes it, and is an indicator of just one of the many things you can do while you’re here. The spa is large and delightful, with a rasul treatment complete with lights in the shape of the constellations in the ceiling making it a wonderful couple’s treatment. Meanwhile, with lots of other activities in the grounds and a variety of restaurants to dine in, it’s perfect for a full weekend of time together for your anniversary.
A gothic hotel where the poet Shelley once lived, and a Neo Classical spa that’s all about decadence, Alexander House and Utopia Spa is every inch luxury and romance. With two award-winning restaurants and a nothing is too much trouble attitude, this is the place to treat your partner. Request rose petals on the bed or chocolate-dipped strawberries and Champagne, and stay in a choice of rooms from the five star country house to the secluded Cedar Lodge Suites in the grounds. Meanwhile, the spa is an adult-only space where you’re treated like a star from the moment you walk in the door.
Another adult-only retreat, Hoar Cross Hall harps back to a bygone age of romance but with all the modern luxuries. The hotel is an Elizabethan manor with beautiful details intact such as hand carved monograms in the ballroom William Morris wallpaper and Sienna marble mantelpieces. Meanwhile, award-winning food includes much that’s been grown on the estate, and the spa is the piece de resistance. Amongst the manicured lawns, rose beds, box hedges and woodland, spend your time strolling in the grounds and playing croquet, before retreating to the saltwater vitality pool and myriad of facilities and treatments that are perfect for sharing.
In a Devon heaven on the edge of Dartmoor, Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall is the perfect fusion of past and present. The historic hotel was once home to Lady Jane Grey, the UK’s ill-fated medieval queen of nine days, and today the five star hotel is brimming with secret archways and stone towers to sneak to alongside its lavish style. The spa on the other hand is all modern luxury. Set over three floors, you can happily spend the day there, enjoying its range of facilities and treatments, and even having lunch in their dedicated spatisserie.
Achingly romantic, Lucknam Park in Wiltshire has a reputation that precedes it. Everything here is exceptional, from the Michelin starred Restaurant Hywel Jones to the legendary spa. Set in 500 acres of grounds just outside Bath, it has everything you could possibly ask for. Not only is it a five-star hotel, but there's an Equestrian Centre, tennis courts and the spa sits within walled gardens complete with thermal cabins, a 20-metre indoor pool and an indoor/outdoor hydrotherapy pool with arboretum views - to name just a few of its assets.
