After so much time without travel and indulgence, when the time comes for us to spa again we will be looking for experiences that really reach new heights. Nowhere is that taken more literally than at Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard in London.
Sky high spa pool in the heart of London
In this iconic building with The City at its feet, the hotel sits on level 34 soaring to 125 metres high and occupying 18 floors of the 72-storey skyscraper designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. Panoramic views of the River Thames and the rooftops of London make for a mesmerising backdrop from the restaurant to the hotel rooms. However, nowhere is it more magical than as you swim into the sky in the hotel’s infinity pool.
Located on the 52nd floor, the aptly named infinity sky pool is the jewel in the spa’s crown. Renowned as the highest hotel pool in Western Europe, it has floor-to-ceiling windows facing west to St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament. Spanning 10 metres in length, it is ideal for a leisurely swim, surfacing at the water’s edge to watch the city buzz beneath and boats cruise on the river.
The embodiment of a mythical secret sanctuary
Every inch a luxury experience, surrounding the spa pool you will find comfortable lounge chairs that are ideal for relaxing and enjoying cocktails from the adjoining GŎNG Bar. The Shangri La hotel was named for James Hilton’s classic 1933 novel, Lost Horizon, featuring a secret sanctuary of peace, happiness and serenity, and the spa pool is an apt embodiment of that vision.
In addition to the spa pool, the London hotel is home to an impressive gym and sauna, and offers a range of therapies and beauty treatments befitting its luxury status. Services include massages, beauty treatments, hairdressing, nails and make-up through their independent partners, London Serenity and Viva Therapy. Therapies use Neal’s Yard products and packages frequently provide gifts so you can continue the wellness experience at home.
