Read full postWith its iconic architecture and unparalleled views of the city, the London spa at the Shangri-La Hotel is the epitome of modern luxury. As the world of hospitality looks to re-open post Covid, this achingly beautiful destination is new to the family and everything we’re looking forward to enjoying and more. Here’s what you can look forward to!
The London spa and hotel occupies 18 floors of Italian architect Renzo Piano’s celebrated 72-storey skyscraper, The Shard. The landmark soars to a whopping 310 metres high, and at a breathtaking 125 metres you reach the Shangri-La Hotel. The well known monument in the middle of The City, is made up of 11,000 glass panels on its exterior, which have the mesmerising effect of mirroring the historic buildings and ever-changing urban landscape around it.
Piano has been quoted as saying:
“One of the great beauties of architecture is that each time, it is like life starting all over again.”
The hotel sits at 125 metres high, giving occupants exquisite views of London and the River Thames. Rooms and suites have floor-to-ceiling windows let in an abundance of natural light and are inspiring spaces in which to wake up. Even the spa benefits from the view. Located on the 52nd floor, the aptly named infinity sky pool gives the impression of swimming into the clouds. There is no part of this hotel that does’t benefit from the panoramic vistas - even as you dine, the 360-degree views add wow-factor.
The Shangri La brand is known as a benchmark for contemporary excellence, but in this case it really does live up to its reputation. Named for James Hilton’s classic 1933 novel, Lost Horizon, featuring a secret sanctuary of peace, happiness and serenity in the mountains of Tibet. You could almost be forgiven for thinking that you had found the real thing here.
Every inch of The Shangri La hotel is about a sensory experience, and dining is no exception. Somewhere to feel your most glamorous self, TĪNG is the Shangri La’s dining experience with those glittering aforementioned city views that really pop at night! Then there’s Bar 31 for drinks, GONG, on Level 52, for sunset cocktails, or the more relaxed Sky Lounge on the 34th floor.
Of course, what really makes a spa experience luxurious is when it’s made just for you. Part of Spabreaks.com’s Elysium collection, their exclusive Stay In The Sky spa experiences are all about you. That includes the option to have your spa treatments in the comfort and privacy of your own room if you feel like it!
